Lots to celebrate in my update this fortnight!
Day 8 Student Numbers
Many of you will know that Day 8 is an important day for schools as it is a point-in-time census date that determines our school's staffing for the year. The good news for us is that we have 203 students; this means that we retain the Head of Department – Curriculum position and retain Terry in a fulltime capacity as our Grounds Officer. It also means that we are entitled to some additional teaching time. I am yet to hear back from HR as to what their entitlement might be and will advise the school community of the outcome as soon as I receive confirmation.
Swimming
Swimming is well underway with only this week remaining. Swimming this week is on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. A big thank you to Mrs Anita Jackson for her work in coordinating this program, to the Atherton Swimming pool for accommodating our students in the warmer months and to our school families who are remembering to pack and unpack swimmers each day! Remember parents are welcome to attend the last lesson on Thursday. Times are as follows:
Year 3/4 swim: 11:30 – 12:15pm
Year 4/5 swim: 12:15 – 1:00pm
Year 5/6 Swim: 1:00 – 1:45pm
Year 6 Swim: 1:45 – 2:30pm
2021 Student Leaders
We had a special parade on Tuesday 9th of February to award badges to our student leaders for 2021. I am sure you will see amazing work leadership from all our Year 6 students, and in particular the following students:
School Captains: Stella Brown and David Earl
School Vice-Captains: Maeve Rothwell and Tom McKean
Ash House Captains: Annika Seden and Sophie Withers
Maple House Captains: Ella Kidcaff and Hudson Suthers
Environmental Leader: Tjala Kratzmann
Student Council President: Freya McMurray
Interschool Sports
Year 5 and 6 students commence Inter-School Sports this week with an away game at Walkamin SS. Permission notes went home last week with students and permission notes need to be returned so that your child can attend. Cost is $4.40 for this term, which covers the cost of 2 away games.
Religion
Religion commenced last week for Years 1 – 4, and will continue this week with the Year 5 and 6 students joining in. Students attend based on the permissions we hold on our system as indicated at enrolment. If you need to make changes to your child's religious instruction permissions, please do so in writing by emailing admin@yungaburrass.eq.edu.au.
NAPLAN
Students in Year 3 and Year 5 will undertake NAPLAN online this year. NAPLAN online will be held between May 11 and May 21. More information will follow.
