Yungaburra State School is a Prep to year 6 primary school located in the heart of the picturesque Atherton Tablelands. The school which is over one hundred years old, boasts a proud tradition of providing an excellent education to children from across the region. Currently, the school caters for 200 plus students. Our students are drawn from the historic village of Yungaburra, small acreage properties and extensive farms, including, amongst others, dairy and sugar cane farms located in the Yungaburra, Atherton and Malanda areas.
Our school community is immensely proud of the standard of education we provide for our students and the excellent results that are achieved at our school. Much of our success is attributable to the following school qualities:
A strong focus on literacy and numeracy delivered through balanced and blended teaching approaches and highly structured reading and mathematics programs that ensure our students have the necessary skills to participate in all aspects of learning.
Relevant, interesting and engaging curriculum units that broaden our students’ experiences in science, technology, history and geography, health and physical education (HPE) and the arts.
A strong commitment to traditional values such as high expectations, strong discipline, respect, and pride in our school.
An ongoing commitment to continual improvement that includes a high quality professional learning program for teachers and support staff.
A focus on the qualities that promote individual well-being and lifelong success through positive and inclusive practices.
Music also plays an important role in our overall curriculum and the school has an extensive instrumental music program and a school choir. Students have regular opportunities to perform at community functions.
Students are also provided with numerous opportunities to develop their sporting prowess including participating in a specialised swimming program, a highly competitive regional athletics program and regular inter-house fixtures.
Yungaburra boasts a beautiful, large oval with an athletic track and soccer field where students can enjoy their HPE lessons and their play time. A spacious undercover hall also caters for sport and play in times of wet weather.
A new library hosts a Makerspace Room, Digital Technology areas and caters for students enjoying a game of chess during recess or conducting research. STEM classes are provided by a specialist teacher from Year 3 - Year 6.
The strong partnership between our community and our school in all aspects of school life ensures that we are always aiming towards best practice with students striving to be the best that they can be.
